Paul sacrificed everything to "know" Christ. The idea of ginosko is experience. He didn't count all things loss to just know some facts about Jesus. He didn't suffer the loss of all things to store up some information about Christ in is mind. He didn't count all things as rubbish to begin a new intellectual exercise that centered on Jesus. Paul sacrificed everything to experience Jesus.
